About NOISE
Over 2 million children introduced to opera since 1983
Founded in 1983 by Lisa Bergman, Michele McBride, and Boyd Schlaefer, NOISE is a professional touring opera company bringing fully staged, kid-friendly adaptations of classic operas to schools and communities across Washington State. Complete with costumes, sets, big laughs, and high notes, our productions are designed for K–6 students—but audiences of all ages can’t get enough!
Now in our 43rd season, we’ve performed over 3,000 shows since 1983, reaching an average of 15,000 students every year. Whether it's a cafeteria, gym, or auditorium, we transform everyday spaces into magical mini-opera houses that spark curiosity, creativity, and joy.
THE CONCEPT
Opera brings together music, theater, movement, and design to tell powerful stories and stir big emotions. At NOISE, we’re passionate about opening this world to young, diverse audiences. For over 40 years, we’ve shared the joy of live opera with more than 2.5 million kids and adults—and we’re still going strong!
NOISE also serves as a vital launching pad for young professional artists! Many NOISE alumni have gone on to grace prestigious opera stages worldwide, including renowned companies like The Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and Seattle Opera.
